Ways to Help Your Second Grader at Home
- Assist your child with memorizing addition/subtraction facts (sums to 18). You may use flashcards, computer games, skill and drill exercises, etc.
- Listen to your child read regularly. Ask questions about setting, characters, facts, details, and beginning, middle, and end of the story.
- Encourage your child to retell a short book he/she has read. Be sure the correct sequence of events is used.
- Allow your child to count the change in your pocket or wallet at least once a week. (up to $1.00)
- Remind your child to read Accelerated Readers and take tests in the classroom.
- Practice telling time to the half-hour.
- Encourage your child
to measure real objects around your home in centimeters and inches.
