Registering for School

How old must my child be?
To be eligible for Kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old on or before August 31

What do I need to bring?
To register a child please bring with you:

  1. Certified Birth Certificate

  2. Immunization Record

  3. Proof of address (the following are acceptable)

    • Current utility bill (water, gas or electric)
    • Signed valid lease agreement (signed by both lessor and lessee)
    • Signed purchase agreement with closing date within 45 days (signed by both purchaser and seller)

Note: Telephone, cell, cable television bills, and/or drivers license are NOT accepted.

How is my child's school assigned?
Base School Assignment

In Wake County most students are assigned to and attend their "base school"; that is, the school assigned based on the parent's or court-appointed custodian's residential address. In some instances the base school may be a magnet school since these schools have base populations in addition to magnet students accepted by application. To determine a child's base school, look up the student's address using the "STREET DIRECTORY" available on-line. If the specific address is not included in the DIRECTORY, contact Growth Management at 850-1921 for assistance.
