Fabulous Fourth Grade

Welcome!

The Fourth Grade Team is delighted to have your child in our fourth grade classes.  We are dedicated to making this an exciting, productive, and rewarding year for each of our students.  We are confident we will enjoy a successful year and we are looking forward to sharing many experiences with you and your child.

Topics of Study in the Fourth Quarter:

Mathematics: This year we have been using our new Trailblazers math books. The Trailblazers program reflects the views and ideas of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. This program is based on the idea that mathematics is best learned in real-world contexts that make sense to children; that all students deserve a richer and more challenging curriculum; and that a balanced and practical approach to learning is what students need and teachers want. The program has many connections to both language arts and science.

Language Arts: In the fourth quarter we will be focusing on reading novels, before and during reading strategies, prewriting strategies, and personal narratives.

Science: During the fourth quarter we will be studying food chemistry.

Social Studies: During the fourth quarter we will be studying the past, present and future of the Piedmont Region.

We have been soaring toward the goals we set for ourselves this year! As the lst quarter of the year begins we must remain energetic and focused. If you have questions or concerns please contact us. We are the strongest when student, parent, and teacher work as a team.

The Best Ways to Help Your Child

Read! Read to them. Have them read to you. Read together out loud. Read in front of them. Read!

Have students help you use math in real life situations. What will the change be? How many gallons of gas can I buy for ten dollars? How many eggs will we need to double the recipe?

What makes you say that? Why do you think the movie will end that way? How is our family like theirs? What do you think the author wants you to learn? Have your child defend their thoughts and assumptions.
