Comedy and Tradegy Masks

Kindergarten- This is going to be an exciting, spectacular, nine weeks for the kindergartners in drama. The students will be using gesture and guided dramatic play to perform at an “Informance” about shapes and the differences between them.

First Grade- The “Super-Duper” First graders will be acting out different animals of North Carolina. The students will learn their animals' habitat and needs from the environment to survive. The “Informance” will be held at the end of the 2 nd nine weeks. The students will use gesture, and voice to perform their animal.

Second- The “Super-Smart” second graders will use the techniques they learned the first nine weeks on effective acting (“Four Tools of an Actor” –movement, voice, gesture and emotion) and apply it to mask making. The students will learn about the history of masks and its use in theatre.

Third- The “Terrific Tiger” Third graders will be creating a play about citizenship and how citizens of a community should act towards one another in certain situations. The students will help brainstorm ideas for the script writing process. The “Informance” will be at the end of the nine weeks.

Fourth- The “Fantasic Flying” Fourth Graders will be acting out stories using only their emotions to explain themselves. They will have a story in their mind and then write down the emotions they had from that experience and then perform that emotion. This lesson will help the students in becoming a more detailed and stronger writer.

Fifth- The “Fearsome Fiery” Fifth Graders will be creating “Read-Along” CD recordings of different books in the library to help beginning readers. The students will apply Foley artistry from previous lessons and “The Four Tools of an Actor” to create this spectacular project. It is also a chance for the Fifth graders to leave their mark on this school they have spent six years at. When they visit Bugg in the future they can check the book out and listen to the project they did long ago that has been encouraging young readers.
