4th and 5th grade students are finishing Novel Encounters Projects on novels of their choice. 4th graders will begin a Thinking Skills Unit based on several different plays they will be reading. One will be a short play about the Wright Brothers and one will be about a woman of note (Susan LaFlesche Picotte, Susan B. Anthony or Amelia Earhart). This is to commemorate Woman's History Month (March).
The 5th grade will be reading plays as well for the Thinking Skills Unit. Their plays will be on a US History theme - about Phyllis Wheatley, Lincoln, Tubman, and Susan B. Anthony.
4th grade math students will be creating math problems for a center based on decimals, place value and multiplication.
5th grade math groups will be exploring John Nappier and lattice multiplication, multiplication rods and Russian Peasant multiplication.
Next: It's Alive! (Disgusting Math) and Real Life Math Mysteries, both with emphasis on fractions, multiplication and division.
