A+ Program
The A+ Schools Program approaches education as a continuous cycle of teaching, learning, and assessing that is grounded in the belief that the arts can play a central role in how children learn.
The A+ approach to learning is based on Howard Gardner's extensive research on multiple intelligences and is also supported by more recent brain research. Gardner has identified eight different types of intelligence including linguistic, logical-mathematical, musical, visual-spatial, bodily kinesthetic (dance, sports) interpersonal (good with other people), intrapersonal (sense of self), and nature (sense of the environment).
Combining Gardner's theory with the elements of interdisciplinary teaching and daily arts instruction gives classroom teachers multiple opportunities each day to recognize the special skills and learning styles of students. Bugg offers children endless opportunities to be successful by encouraging them to learn and demonstrate learning through all the ways in which they are able.
Since adopting the A+ approach to learning, Bugg Elementary has shown impressive results in achievement while attendance has increased and office referrals have decreased. Students, parents, and teachers agree that the program at Bugg Elementary seems to live up to the A+ philosophy of "schools that work for everyone."
